A call to action! Please Sign a Clemency Petition Postcard for Debra Gindorf!

AS OF OCTOBER 26 2007, WE HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROM GOVERNOR BLAGOJEVICH.

But awhile back we did hear from Renee Ferguson of NBC5 News: (for article only - video no longer available) Woman Convicted Of Killing Own Children Seeks Clemency

Sunday April 25, 2004 CBS 2 Chicago Illinois Wire AP Article! Citing postpartum illness, woman who killed her children seeks clemency

DEBRA'S CLEMENCY HEARING WENT VERY WELL!

The Illinois Prisoner Review Board heard argument on Debra's petition on April 16, 2003. The Board was very receptive and we are hopeful that their recommendation (which is secret) was positive. Special thanks are due Dr. Susan Feingold and Carol Blocker, both of whom were simply excellent. Carol, in particular, made a remarkable, moving plea for Debra's release and for much-needed understanding of postpartum disorders. May is Postpartum Awareness Month in Illinois. Now is the time to contact Governor Blagojevich and urge him to free Debra now! The Governor's phone number is (217) 782-6830. His fax number is (217) 558-0897. His mailing address is Hon. Rod Blagojevich, Governor of the State of Illinois, 207 State House, Springfield, IL  62706. If you have questions about contacting the Governor, call Debra's attorney, Assistant Appellate Defender Kathleen Hamill, at (847) 695-8822, or email her at Kathleen.Hamill@osad.state.il.us

For information on what you can do to help free Debra, email the Committee at info@freedebra.org or call Kathleen Hamill, Assistant Defender, Office of the State Appellate Defender, at (847) 695-8822. Together, we can right this gross injustice!

Eric Zorn

On January 23, 2003 Eric Zorn published a column in the Chicago Tribune taking former Governor Ryan to task for having denied Debra's petition "Tragic case cried out for Ryan's mercy". Then on February 18, 2003 he wrote "Slain kids' mom has 2nd chance to get clemency" .

May 1, 2003. On the first day of Postpartum Depression Awareness Month, Eric Zorn published another column calling for Debra's immediate release: "Mom punished long enough for her illness"

March 2, 2004. In response to the tragic suicide of yet another Chicago-area postpartum depression or psychosis victim, Eric Zorn wrote yet another column calling for the Governor to act on Debra's clemency petition.  "Mother's Suicide Should Signal Governor To Act".

May 11, 2004. . . . and the beat goes on . . ."Post-partum response good, but not enough"
