Naples woman accused of using bank details of former roommate to pay phone and electricity bills
NAPLES, Fla. – A woman has been arrested after allegedly stealing nearly $ 5,000 from someone renting her a room.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office said Brianna Craig, 61, of Naples, used her former roommate’s bank account information to pay her phone and electricity bills.
Investigators say the victim was a man who rented a room in the house on Craig’s Bamboo Drive. The man has lived there since early 2018, but moved in November 2019.
The investigation began two years later, in August 2021, when the man checked bank statements for an account with an inheritance of $ 20,000 he received when his mother died.
He notices that recurring payments are made to Metro PCS and Florida Power and Light.
The victim told MPs he believed Craig got his bank account information from his mail.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office subpoena files linked the Metro PCS account to a phone in Brianna Craig’s name. Detectives were also able to link FPL payments to Craig’s address.
Payments for both accounts began after the victim left. A police report indicates that FPL received $ 3,964.34 from the victim’s account and Metro PCS received $ 854.
Craig admitted that she fraudulently spent $ 4,818.34 on the victim’s account and was arrested.
